About this deal

Airfly Pro Review – Ever wish you can use your noise-cancelling headphones with the aeroplane’s flight entertainment system without the pesky cable? Or ever wish your favourite speaker at home has a Bluetooth functionality? Ever wish to be able to share a song or gaming on a console using your own headphones? Ever wish you can watch a movie airing on the hotel room’s TV using your wireless headphones? Ever wish your old car supports Bluetooth so you don’t have to listen to the radio all the time? It also supports Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX Low Latency Codecs so if your Bluetooth headphones or earphones support Bluetooth 5.0, you won’t get any audio latency when playing games or watching movies with the Airfly Pro. Twelve South has included a cap for the AirFly Pro that has a small key ring on it. I love this little addition because I can add it to my keychain and always have my AirFly Pro with me wherever I go. You never know when you're going to want to connect to the audio in a car. The Airfly Duo can connect to two sets of headphones at one time, just like the Pro, but unlike the Pro, with just a few hours of charge, the device can last for over 20 hours!

Pairing the AirFly with your favorite set of wireless headphones couldn’t be easier. After fully charging the device with the included charging cable, we were able to pair our set of AirPods Pro within 30 seconds with the push of a couple of buttons — one on the AirFly and one on the AirPods case. During our testing on a nearly completely full airplane, the AirFly had no difficulties producing sound without interfering with other Bluetooth headphones in the small space. So if you have a wireless earphones or headphones that supports Bluetooth 5.0 like the new Apple Airpods Pro, Bose’s new 700, or the Beats Solo Pro I use for my daily commute, you should be good. If you only have headphones that support the older Bluetooth version, you can still use the Airfly Pro for music (and movies or games, but with a slight delay that I told you about). I wish I paid attention to this before I took my old Bose instead to fly!

Use wireless headphones with any headphone jack.

Whichever mode you are in will require you to connect to AirFly Pro via Bluetooth, which is surprisingly easy. Simply hold & press the main button to set it to pairing mode. Do the same with your favourite wireless headphones like the Bose QC35 II or Beats Solo Pro, or wireless earbuds like the Jabra Elite 75t or Beats Powerbeats Pro. They will automatically pair without having to open any app or settings on your phone.

Plug the AirFly Pro into the AUX port on your car radio, pair Twelve South’s accessory with your iPhone, and you can play music from your phone over the car’s speakers. There’s a removable cover for the plug that includes a loop so you can attach the AirFly Pro to your keys, but be careful using it: If the cover pops off, you’ve lost this accessory. Maybe keep it in a bag instead. Audio sharing with AirFly Pro is amazing. I went ahead and tried listening to audio on my Switch using one earbud from two different headphones at the same time and there wasn't even any lag between them. It was as though I was listening through a single pair. Although the product is being sold by Apple, it works with every brand of wireless headphones, not just Airpods. You are now an Airfly expert, and it really is up to you to decide which device is the better option for you. They are both fantastic products and if you are like the majority of consumers, you will love having one of these devices handy for travel whether you use it for an airplane TV screen, tablet, or one of the many other appliances they connect to. Once you have plugged it in, you will simply need to connect the Duo via Bluetooth to your wireless headphones of choice to enjoy listening to your favorite audio entertainment. Transmit mode means it will send the audio from the device it’s plugged to, straight to your Bluetooth device (e.g your Bluetooth headphones/earphones). For example, if you plug it to your Nintendo Switch, you can use any Bluetooth earphones/headphones with the console.

Plus, if you want to invest in an inexpensive 3.5 mm audio converter, you can connect this gizmo to any wired headphones. This means any headphones you encounter can be Bluetooth. It’s important to note that the Airfly Pro typically costs a little more, while the Airfly Duo can be found at a more affordable price. In my testing, the AirFly Pro is easy to use and reliable. It had no problems connecting to any of the Bluetooth devices I tried. That includes multiple pairs of headphones, and a speaker too. AirPods were clearly the inspiration for Twelve South’s designers. AirFly Pro has the rounded corners and edges of Apple’s earbuds. It’s all smooth and shiny white plastic, just like the AirPods case. I tested this out with my S.O. and a multiplayer game on Nintendo Switch. Each of us wearing our own set of headphones could play a game on the Switch with the AirFly Pro.

AirFly Pro can even connect to two pairs of wireless headphones at the same time. You and a friend can listen to the same music while jogging. Or both watch a movie on a laptop with headphones. If you have a pair of Bluetooth speakers, you can even fill a room with (non-stereo) sound. As you now know, Twelve South created the Airfly Pro so that consumers can enjoy listening to audio from devices that do not typically connect to wireless headphones. The second new feature that AirFly Pro has is called Receive mode. Flip the switch on the side of the AirFly Pro dongle and it becomes the receiver of the Bluetooth transmission. Pair it with your iPhone, and then plug it into an aux-in port (like the one you might find in a car), and suddenly, your phone is wirelessly connected to your car (or a rental car, or a friend's car). I'm a big fan of Bluetooth receivers in my house. I own a lot of older speakers that don't support Bluetooth. As long as you have a 3.5mm aux-in port (not the headphone port, that's aux-out), this will make your home sound system Bluetooth enabled.
