About this deal

Well. That sounds like a completely useless thing to get. Thanks for the great review and saving us from even for a moment thinking it might be a fun gadget to have in the kitchen. Well done for persevering with all the tests. In the grand universe of kitchen gadgets, I categorise Jamie Oliver’s Flavour Shaker as a toy: cute, friendly and plastic. Now that I’ve had a chance to use it, I’m glad I didn’t actually buy it. There are too many annoying things about it: the guide arrows don’t align; it takes too long to get a mediocre grind, and cleaning it is more than a pain. The recipe below is based on using a large (2.4 litre, 10 cup) Bundt pan as I love the appearance of the finished cake. Bundt pans are available from good kitchen shops and online.

If using a round or oblong tin, sprinkle a tablespoon of pearl sugar over the batter just before baking the cake. But note that this one was not Jamie’s idea. It had been beautifully constructed by a professional production team to act as a vehicle for him. He also didn’t make the same mistake, as with 15, of putting his own money into it. Hmm, I had a feeling that this couldn't be the Jamie Oliver version of a Pestle and Mortar, cute though it may be - I'm sure it made him lots of money although I'm seeing it here in reduced dumper bins now. Shame, because his books are good.He certainly put in alot of effort and for that he is to be admired. But at the same time he started doing more and more commercials that I would argue were dubious in his position of a chef. And he involved his family and his personal life more and more, and it started to feel a bit wrong. Clearly those who designed this and made all the critical decisions on what plastic to use had no clue just how much punishment that ceramic ball could dish out!

At least it will provide those irritating fools that harp on about how “money doesn’t bring you happiness” with another example of how right they always are. Update: June 2021 and here i thought this thing was a godsend. i'm glad i haven't bought one yet! i'm also glad to hear that a mortar & pestle is a good bet -- i've been wanting one for a while, but wasn't sure how much i'd use it. Kardemummakaka is normally served plain with a good cup of coffee, but occasionally it is accompanied by a little whipped cream and some fresh fruit. John Duxbury Summary Suddenly it starts looking like all the really good stuff he has done is more to do with him relieving his conscience, rather than, as he has claimed, the real reason behind his commercial efforts. If you've got one, I recommend using a Jamie Oliver "flavour shaker" for grinding cardamom as the seeds have an annoying habit of jumping out of a mortar. (It's about the only time I bother using a flavour shaker!) Also interesting that chlorine bleach removes the curry smell (I wonder if that would work with the plastic top of our spice grinder...)

This flavour shaker is crap! I nearly choked my husband on the broken shards in his salad. Our 11year old bought the shaker for him at christmas and was very upset to think she had nearly killed daddy! Diane - I think there's a reason mortars and pestles have been around for thousands of years...and this one probably won't last five.A brilliant idea let down by one critical and possibly leathal problem...the plastic used in its construction is too fragile and rigid for the task at hand! Did they get you to sign a confidentiality contract? Because if not, there is a newspaper out there that would pay for a behind-the-scenes expose. The Daily Mail or The Evening Standard. Sorry to hear that. One of the sad realities of meeting renowned or famous people is that they rarely live up to expectation and, in some cases, turn out to be complete arseholes. Most people off the TV fit into this category in my experience. Bake for about an hour until it is golden brown, just beginning to pull away from the side of the Bundt and a skewer poked into the cake comes out clean. DONT BUY IT. Mine arrived a few hours ago and the seal came off during the first few shakes and left my counter and hands in a right old mess.
